Life at Outdoor Resort Indio isn’t just about the resort — sometimes it’s about the getaway. Many ORI owners enjoy quick trips to the California coast, and on this drive toward San Diego (about two hours away), we made a must-stop along Highway 79: the famous Julian Pie Company in Santa Ysabel.
The scenic route through the desert mountains leads to this charming little town where you can grab pie by the slice or take home a whole one. Top it with whipped cream, caramel, ice cream, or even a slice of cheddar — yes, really! It’s a classic California road trip experience.
After pie, we crossed the street to explore The Olive and Oak, a delightful shop filled with antiques, gifts, and specialty food items. We left with pickled green beans, BBQ sauce, and even antique children’s cobbler shoe forms. Out back, a peaceful porch and garden walkway connect to additional boutique shops — the perfect way to spend a relaxing afternoon.
Just another reason why owning at Outdoor Resort Indio means more than staying put — it means access to everything Southern California has to offer.
